The Consumer Price Index is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. Indexes are available for the U.S. and various geographic areas. Average price data for select utility, automotive fuel, and food items are also available.

The Employment Situation Report presents statistics from two major surveys, the Current Population Survey and the Current Employment Statistics survey. The household survey provides information on the labor force, employment, and unemployment. It is a sample survey of about 60,000 eligible households conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Labor Productivity and Costs

Labor productivity is a measure of economic performance that compares the amount of goods and services produced (output) with the number of hours worked to produce those goods and services. Two BLS programs produce Labor Productivity and Costs measures for sectors of the US economy: Major Sector Productivity program & Industry Productivity program. The Major Sector Productivity program develops quarterly labor productivity measures for the major US economic sectors. The Industry Productivity program develops annual labor productivity and unit labor cost measures for US industries.
