The Producer Price index for industrial products measures the development of prices for products manufactured in Germany by the mining, manufacturing, and energy and water sectors and sold domestically. It takes into account all taxes and levies on the products, excluding value-added tax (VAT). It thus represents price changes at an early stage of the economic process. The reference date for data collection is the 15th of the reporting month. The current base year for the producer price index for industrial products is 2021. The basket of goods and the weighting of the index are based on this base year.

The Producer Price Indices for Industrial Products reflects the trend and degree of changes in general ex-factory prices of all manufactured goods during a given period, including sales of manufactured goods by an industrial enterprise to all units outside the enterprise, as well as sales of consumer goods to residents. It can be used to analyze the impact of ex-factory prices on gross output value and value-added of the industrial sector.
