The Honor Foundation Founder & CEO Joe Musselman, San Diego Councilmember Barbara Bry, Navy SEAL Foundation Chairman Retired Rear Admiral (SEAL) Garry J. Bonelli and Navy SEAL Foundation CEO Robin King will join Alexandria to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and to commemorate the kickoff of the redevelopment for The Honor Foundation's future headquarters

PASADENA, Calif., Sept. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE: ARE), an urban office REIT uniquely focused on collaborative life science and technology campuses in AAA innovation cluster locations, will host a commemorative project kickoff ceremony in San Diego today for its redevelopment of the future national headquarters for The Honor Foundation (THF), a unique transition institute created exclusively for Navy SEALs and the U.S. Special Operations community. Following Alexandria's record-breaking fundraising efforts earlier this year, led by CEO Joel S. Marcus as chair of the Navy SEAL Foundation's Ninth Annual Benefit Dinner in New York City on March 2, 2017, the company is now providing a mission-critical headquarters for THF, in partnership with the Navy SEAL Foundation. Alexandria has committed to fully building out the headquarters to create a collaborative and innovative home for THF, where the organization will offer programs and events to help transition Navy SEALs and other U.S. Special Operators into the private-sector workforce.

"It is very fitting that we are holding this special ceremony to commemorate the kickoff for the future THF headquarters on September 11, a day that profoundly changed both New York City and the entire nation," said Joel S. Marcus, chairman, chief executive officer and founder of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., and board member of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. "I was in New York City on this important date in our country's history, and in the words of Virgil that are prominently displayed on a memorial wall at the 9/11 Memorial Museum to honor and remember the victims, 'No day shall erase you from the memory of time.' It is truly our privilege not only to take time to remember those lost in the horrific attacks of September 11, but also to further pay tribute and lend assistance to the brave men and women who defend our nation through our deep and continued support of military service groups, including the Navy SEAL Foundation and THF."

An esteemed group of City of San Diego officials and military veterans will join Alexandria this morning for the commemorative project kickoff for the future THF headquarters. Mr. Marcus; Mr. Daniel J. Ryan, executive vice president – regional market director of San Diego for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc.; Joe Musselman, founder and chief executive officer of THF; City of San Diego Councilmember Barbara Bry (District 1); and retired Rear Admiral (SEAL) Garry J. Bonelli, chairman of the board of the Navy SEAL Foundation, will share remarks on the impact of THF on the U.S. Special Operations community and the City of San Diego, as well as on the importance of Alexandria's partnership with the Navy SEAL Foundation and THF. Robin King, chief executive officer of the Navy SEAL Foundation, will also be in attendance for this important event, which will begin with a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of 9/11.

"We are honored to partner with the Navy SEAL Foundation and THF on the future THF headquarters," said Mr. Ryan. "Our build-out of the headquarters for THF is a mere token of our gratitude for the courage, dedication and sacrifice that our elite forces demonstrate, without hesitation, every day, in defense of our country."

Upon completion, the THF headquarters will offer an open and flexible floor plan with ample natural light and will feature conference, event and co-working spaces, as well as a lounge and a gaming area. Alexandria has purposefully designed every aspect of the headquarters with the U.S. Special Operations Forces community in mind.

"Thank you to two amazing partners, Alexandria and the Navy SEAL Foundation," said Mr. Musselman. "Without their tireless efforts, support and generosity, we would not be creating this future headquarters. It is a true honor to work together on what will be a transformative space for the Naval Special Warfare community, the business community and the City of San Diego. Our headquarters will bring together the best and brightest this city and our military have to offer as we continue to build on our plan to impact 65,000 lives by 2020. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support as we deliver a world-class program for transitioning Navy SEALs and the wider Special Operations community."

Alexandria's commitment to philanthropy and good citizenship drives the company's efforts in all aspects of its differentiated and multifaceted business model, as well as its pursuit of its mission to advance human health, solve global hunger and improve the quality of people's lives. Through Alexandria's four verticals—real estate, venture investments, thought leadership and corporate responsibility—the company creates and supports collaborative campuses and vibrant ecosystems that enable the world's most innovative companies to develop life-changing scientific and technological breakthroughs.
