The United States Census Bureau is the government agency responsible for carrying out national censuses. It is primarily known for the decennial population count, but it is also responsible for smaller agricultural and manufacturing censuses.

The Advance Monthly Retail Trade Report estimates consumer retail spending - but not service spending - based on the responses to 5,000 surveys sent to retailers around the US. It has a reputation for being revised significantly month-to-month, but it still moves markets with large surprises. Numbers are nominal (not adjusted for inflation).
