With 71.6% of its GDP made up of the service industry, Japan remains one of the world's leading exporters in motor vehicles, electronic equipment, and machine tools. The industrial focus of the economy makes Japan heavily reliant on imported raw materials and fuels. While Japan possesses one of the world's largest economies, the country's annualized GDP growth rate has slowed over recent decades, from a high of 10% per year in the 1960's to just 1.7% in the 1990's.
