Estonia has a modern market-based economy and one of the highest per capita income levels in Central Europe. Estonia's government has pursued a free market, pro-business economic agenda and has largely succeeded. The economy benefits from strong electronics and telecommunications sectors. The economy fell sharply into a recession in 2008 with its GDP contracting by 14.3% in 2009. However, Estonia now has the highest GDP growth rate in Europe with a GDP of $27.02 billion according to 2011 estimates, putting it at 111th in the world.
