Spain Economy

Back to Economic Data Main Page

Spain has the 12th largest economy in the world with a nominal GDP of $1.41 trillion. Spain had experienced a construction boom from the late '90s through 2007, which at its peak in 2007, construction had accounted for a massive 16% of Spain's GDP and 12% of employment. However, this caused an increase in personal debt. This eventually led to a weakened economy and high unemployment, which is currently at 23.78% as of August 2012.
