Algeria Economy

Back to Economic Data Main Page

Algeria is a republic in the Maghreb region of Northwest Africa which borders the Mediterranean. According to 2011 estimates, Algeria had a nominal GDP of $190.709 billion, putting it at 47th in the world. The economy of Algeria relies heavily on it's fossil fuel energy sector which represents over 30 percent of GDP and over 95 percent of export earnings. This is largely fueled by large, proven oil and natural gas reserves. Other industries have fared far less well and efforts by the government to stimulate other sectors have met with little success.
