The economy of Cyprus is dominated by the division of the country into the government-controlled southern area and the Turkish occupied Northern Cyrpus. It has a nominal GDP of $24.95 billion ranking it 91st in the world. The government controlled Republic of Cyprus is a free-market service-based economy. It is one of the most prosperous economies per capita in the Mediterranean region with GDP per capita reaching $30,000. The Turkish occupied Northern Cyprus is about one-fifth the size of the economy. Since it is recognized only by Turkey, foreign investment has been minimal and the economy revolves mainly around the agricultural sector.
