Back to Economic Data Main Page

Austria ranks in the top 12 richest economies in the world with a GDP per capita of $41,800 by 2011 estimates. Historically, Austria's main trading partner has been Germany, leaving it vulnerable to changes in the German economy, however, since its admission to the European Union, it has gained closer ties to other economies within the EU. Austria has a well-developed social market economy and other than its highly developed industry, international tourism is the most important part of the economy.
