Wall Street Consensus

View Financial Glossary Index

Definition

The estimate of earnings per share (EPS) and revenue by analysts covering a particular company. Generally, EPS and revenue are estimated by analysts for the current quarter, year and next year. Consensus estimates are more accurate for the current quarter but estimates further out are less so.

Larger companies and those that are part of major indices like the Dow and S&P 500 receive more attention and coverage from analysts.
