SGA%

View Financial Glossary Index

Definition

SGA% (selling, general, and administrative expense percentage) is selling, general and administrative expenses as a percentage of gross profit. Like R&D%, the selling, general, and administrative expense percentage illustrates a specific aspect of a company's fixed cost distribution.

In order to understand the distribution of a company's revenue towards expenses, investors observe the SGA% and other expense metrics. Though YCharts calculates SGA% as SG&A Expense/Gross Profit, some sources calculate SGA% as SG&A Expense/Revenue, so pay close attention to the definition being used.

Formula

SGA% = Selling, General, and Administrative Expenses / Gross Profit
