Income from Discontinued Operations

View Financial Glossary Index

Definition

Income from operations that used to be a part of the business but are not any longer. This could be due to the sale of a portion of a business, shutting down a division, or something else.

When companies discontinue a material part of their business they are required to disclose this number to investors so investors are aware of the upcoming impact on income.
