Definition

A financial index that is widely used to evaluate the overall performance and health of the stock market. It consists of 30 stocks picked by the editors of the Wall Street Journal.

Also known as the DJIA and "The Dow." Sometimes, the stocks within are referred to as "The Blue Chips."
