The Unemployment Situation Report is issued monthly by the U.S. Government and contains a comprehensive collection of statistics regarding household earnings and the job market. The report is a powerful economic indicator, substantially impacting the stock and bond markets. Statistics reported include the unemployment rate, the long-term unemployment rate, the volume of discouraged workers, and household wages and salaries.
The data in the report is collected from two surveys--one of 60,000, randomly-selected households and the second, of approximately 400,000 companies and government agencies who employ American citizens.
