Southwestern Energy Co. was founded in 1929 as Arkansas Western Gas Company and changed to its present name in 1978. In December 1981, the company went public and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The independent energy company primarily engages in natural gas and crude oil exploration, development and production within the United States. The company operates through two segments: Exploration and Production, and Midstream Services. As of December 31, 2010, the company's estimated proved natural gas and oil reserves were approximately 4,937 billion cubic feet of natural gas equivalent. Southwestern Energy Company is based in Houston, Texas.
