Youku Won't Gain Much From China's 4G Rollout In 2014
R.W. Baird's William Power today reiterates an Outperform rating on shares of Apple (AAPL), writing that he estimates the company can sell between 12.5 million and 30 million additional units of the iPhone through China Mobile (CHL), assuming speculation in the last week is correct and that the two have finally worked out a deal. China Mobile, the world's largest carrier with 755 million subscribers, may add between 200 million and 300 million smartphones to its network next year, he believes, after having added 60 million in the first half of this year. Power takes a simple percentage of what he thinks Apple could represent on the China Mobile network: We estimate that a new relationship between China Mobile and Apple could generate 20-25 million incremental iPhone sales. We base this estimate on the assumption that China Mobile sells greater than 250 million smartphones, and Apple increases its market share into the 7.5%+ range.
