Balchem Corporation engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of specialty performance ingredients and products for the food, nutritional, feed, pharmaceutical, and medical sterilization industries in the United States and internationally. Its Specialty Products segment offers ethylene oxide, which is used to sterilize medical devices; ethylene oxide blends used in killing bacteria, fungi, and insects in spices and other seasoning materials; and propylene oxide, which controls insects and microbiological spoilage, as well as reduces bacterial and mold contamination in shell and processed food. The companys Food, Pharma & Nutrition segment provides microencapsulation solutions for various applications in food, pharmaceutical, and nutritional ingredients to improve the performance of nutritional fortification, processing, mixing, and packaging applications and shelf-life; markets human grade choline nutrient products for wellness applications; and offers granulated calcium carbonate products, which are used in or in conjunction with over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals for the treatment of osteoporosis, gastric disorders, and calcium deficiencies. Balchems Animal Nutrition & Health segment provides animal nutritional products, including REASHURE Choline, an encapsulated choline product; NITROSHURETM, an encapsulated urea supplement; and NIASHURETM, a microencapsulated niacin product that boosts health and milk production in transition and lactating dairy cows. This segment also markets chelated mineral supplements for use in animal feed; manufactures and supplies basic choline chloride, an essential nutrient primarily for the poultry and swine industries; and manufactures and sells methylamines, which is primarily used in the manufacture of choline products. Balchem sells its products directly, as well as through independent distributors and sales agents. The company was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in New Hampton, New York.
