Shawn Carpenter, CEO & Publisher
Shawn has been an active investor for over 15 years. He developed YCharts to provide investors with comprehensive
investment tools focused on quantitative fundamental analysis. Shawn spent three years at Google, where he led strategy
& revenue intelligence efforts for the $350 million Local Vertical. Before Google, he led business development and
new product launches for Classified Ventures. In 1998, Shawn founded WallStreetView and raised over $7 million in venture
capital to launch one of the first real-time investor portals for individual investors. Shawn holds a BS from the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has appeared on Fox Business, CNBC and is a contributor to Forbes.
Jeff Bailey, Editor
Jeff Bailey serves as editor and manages the YCharts editorial team. A contributing editor at Inc. magazine and
Chicago magazine, Bailey also writes for other national business and general-interest publications. Bailey spent
20 years at the Wall Street Journal as reporter, editor and columnist, served as the editor at Crain's Chicago
Business and was a reporter for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register.
Bill Barnhart, Contributing Editor
Bill Barnhart is a 36-year veteran of business reporting. Most
recently he was the financial columnist for the Chicago Tribune, where
he offered daily commentary on financial markets. He is a past
president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. He was
a commentator on the Nightly Business Report on PBS. Bill holds an MBA
degree from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
Brett Chase, Contributing Editor
Mr. Chase is a former editor and reporter for Bloomberg News and Crain's Chicago Business. He's also
served as contributing writer for Portfolio.com and Minyanville.com and is the former Chicago bureau chief
for the American Banker.
Dee Gill, Contributing Editor
Dee Gill is a former foreign correspondent for AP-Dow Jones News in London, where she covered the U.K.
equities market and economic indicators. As a freelance writer, she wrote about business issues for numerous
national and international publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Time magazines.
Jim Miller, Contributing Editor
Jim Miller spent 17 years as a reporter at the Wall Street Journal, covering a variety of topics including
corporate earnings, finance and merger-and-acquisition activity. He also reported on business and finance for
the Chicago Tribune for nine years.
J. Stuart Kruse, Quantitative Analyst
Mr. Kruse built Kruse Asset Management in 2007, after 7 years with Bear Stearns & Co. Inc. where he originally
systemized the QVP. During QVP development in 2005, Bear Stearns Asset Management audited and approved this unique
model to be run on a discretionary basis for clients of Kruse and other brokers. While at Bear Stearns, Mr. Kruse
managed investments totaling over $100 million, and closely advised on an additional $800 million in assets for other
groups. Kruse also serves as adjunct professor at Concordia University's MBA program in Entrepreneurial Finance.
Nathan Pinger, Quantitative Analyst
Nathan holds a MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Nathan is responsible for
our market analytics and portfolio strategy backtesting.
